Batted-Ball Spray Charts
The College Baseball Explorer now includes interactive batted-ball spray charts on batter profile pages.
Spray charts show the location of each recorded batted ball on a baseball field, allowing users to explore a hitter’s distribution of contact across the field. Points are colored by the opposing pitcher’s throwing hand, making it easier to compare batted-ball direction against left-handed and right-handed pitching.
The charts currently include 2026 NCAA postseason game data. Each plotted point represents a completed batted-ball event, with duplicate pitch-description records removed to ensure the chart reflects individual balls in play.
Users can now:
- View individual hitter spray charts from the Batter Profiles tab
- See batted-ball location across the field
- Compare contact direction against left- and right-handed pitchers
Note: Gray points indicate that pitcher handedness was unavailable in the current reference data. This generally occurs when the opposing pitcher is from outside the Power Four conferences covered by the Explorer.
Offensive Profile Quadrant Chart
This visualization compares teams based on their percentile rankings in walk rate (BB%) and isolated power (ISO). The four quadrants represent different offensive approaches: Patient + Power, Patient + Contact, Aggressive + Power, and Aggressive + Contact.
A team’s position reflects its offensive profile, not its overall performance or team quality. This makes it possible to see how teams differ in their approach at the plate, independent of how successful they were overall.
Power Four Coverage Complete
The College Baseball Explorer now includes data from all four power conferences: ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, and SEC.
With the addition of Big Ten data, the Explorer provides a broader national view of college baseball analytics, allowing users to explore individual conferences, compare players across conferences, and analyze performance across the complete Power Four.
Big Ten Data Added
Big Ten baseball data has been added to the College Baseball Explorer, completing coverage of the Power Four conferences.
Users can now:

College Baseball Explorer Expansion
The College Baseball Explorer continues to expand beyond its ACC roots, bringing together data from multiple conferences into a broader college baseball analytics experience.
College Baseball Explorer Launch
Ball Club Data expanded beyond its ACC roots with the launch of the College Baseball Explorer.
The original ACC Baseball Explorer has been archived as the foundation of the project, while the new College Baseball Explorer provides a broader view of college baseball analytics. The explorer allows users to analyze player performance across multiple conferences and compare statistics in a larger national context.
SEC Data Added
The College Baseball Explorer now includes SEC baseball data alongside the existing ACC data.
Users can now:

Big 12 Data Added
The College Baseball Explorer now includes Big 12 baseball data alongside the existing ACC and SEC data.
With the addition of the Big 12, users can now explore three major conferences within a single analytics platform, with conference filters allowing them to switch between conference-specific and broader comparisons.

Player Profile Pages
Added individual player profile pages for both batters and pitchers.
Users can now explore:
- Multi-season performance histories
- Advanced metrics including wRC+, wOBA, ISO, FIP, and K-BB%
- Season-by-season percentile rankings
Percentile rankings are calculated using season-specific ACC context, allowing player performance to be evaluated relative to peers from the same year.
Downloadable Data
Added CSV downloads directly from the Explorer.
Users can now export:
- Batter statistics
- Pitcher statistics
- Conference leaderboard data
The downloadable files match the statistics displayed in the application and allow users to perform additional analysis outside of the Explorer.
ACC Baseball Explorer Launch
The initial release of the Explorer introduced interactive tools for analyzing ACC baseball performance, including:
- Advanced batting metrics
- Advanced pitching metrics
- Team-level comparisons
- Conference visualizations

accbaseballr R Package Released
Created the accbaseballr R package to provide a standardized framework for analyzing ACC baseball statistics.
The package processes raw college baseball data and calculates advanced metrics including:
- wOBA
- wRC+
- ISO
- FIP K-BB%
The package was submitted to and accepted by CRAN, making it publicly available to the R community.
